Senior Risk Underwriter - Trade Credit

(Hybrid - London or Manchester Office/Home Working)

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Risk Underwriting team within the Trade Credit Insurance industry. Our UK book is varied and the team assesses the credit risk profile of an array of corporates stretching from domestic SME’s through to global, blue-chip companies in a number of trade sectors including Construction, Fuel, Metals, Retail, Advertising, Food & Drink and Tech/IT. In this client, market-facing role you will have the opportunity to own your relationships, developing your underwriting knowledge and profile as a specialist within the market. We empower our underwriters to underwrite their own business, with this role offering both the exposure and support from working with an experienced team. We are looking to speak with experienced trade credit professionals, ideally with credit insurance product knowledge from an underwriting, broking or wider financial services discipline background.

 

Your responsibilities for this role may include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage a portfolio of clients, providing first-class service.

  • Establish and strengthen strong relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues, to maximize influence and achieve business objectives.

  • Manage a portfolio of risk, answering credit limit requests as well as providing comprehensive analysis of key risks within the portfolio.

  • Contribute and influence in the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress toward business objectives.

  • Have ownership and demonstrate expertise of a specific sector, providing sectoral reports and regular sector updates to the team and the market.

  • Conduct buyer meetings and provide detailed reports on business performance.

  • Work closely with colleagues in commercial, new business and claims to ensure our goals are aligned and business plan is achieved.

  • Apply the Reinsurance Strategy in order to safeguard the portfolio.

  • Contribute and participate in all meetings, in order to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice.

  • Positively promote the department, division and company as a whole, in order to maximise brand leverage.

  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimise risk and maximize efficiency.

  • Ensure entries are properly and promptly recorded on QBE systems to ensure accuracy of data.

  • Contribute to the aggregate management and peer review processes to encourage and develop excellence.

 

You will need to be able to display you have the following qualifications and experience, or clear potential to develop these: 

  • Experienced professional with proven knowledge of the credit insurance market, preferably within an underwriting or broking capacity otherwise wider financial services discipline.

  • Intermediate level understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental software packages.

  • Extensive knowledge of economic and sectoral trends in the UK and global markets.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships across all levels of the organisation and with external clients.

  • Good reasoning capabilities, creative and lateral thinking, good problem-solving skills.

About the role:  
We’re looking for a highly motivated and driven individual to join the Commercial function within Bondaval. You will be positioned at the heart of what we do as a business, having a front row seat to drive our commercial growth and securing new partnerships. The role covers both the UK and Europe, supporting our business expansion across these regions. You'll report directly to David Stevens, Head of Commercial Underwriting for the UK & Europe.

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and assist broker-driven sales efforts in the UK and Europe  

  • Manage pricing discussions and deal negotiations  

  • Perform research to identify potential new prospects

  • Work closely with our existing broker channel and develop new partnerships 

  • Build and maintain relationships with existing client base and grow existing accounts  

  • Update and maintain our CRM to efficiently manage deal flow

You might be a good fit if you have: 

  • 4+ years of trade credit insurance experience

  • Risk underwriting experience 

  • Existing trade credit broker network 

  • Experience of structuring trade credit policies (Ground up, Named buyer, XoL) 

  • Experience in preparing pitches and/or commercial terms 

  • A relentless attention to detail and unwavering work ethic 

  • Strong organisational, analytical, and presentational skills 

 

Nice to haves:

  • Existing ACII qualification or training towards one 

  • Experience of working closely with, CFOs, Treasurers and Credit Managers

Advocacy and Data Officer

​ICISA is the global trade association representing trade credit insurers, sureties and their reinsurers. Job Purpose:

As a Policy and Advocacy Data Specialist, you will play a key role in shaping our data strategy as a foundation for thought leadership and advocacy. By working closely with the Executive Director and Head of Policy and Regulatory Affairs, you will support the continuous development and execution of our advocacy strategy, supporting members, and building our reputation and standing with key stakeholders.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Research & Insight Development

  • Collaborate with the Head of Policy and Regulatory Affairs to gain insights into regulatory and advocacy topics, member issues, and interests.

  • Conduct research on key topics, organize and host member-led meetings, and facilitate surveys.

  • Prepare high-quality oral and written briefings on key topics.

2. Data Collection & Analysis

  • Serve as the liaison for members regarding standard data collection.

  • Identify and collect additional data sources from the public domain for advocacy and PR purposes.

  • Analyse collected data, present findings both orally and in writing, and recommend methods for visualizing or presenting data effectively.

3. Advocacy Strategy Support

  • Assist in identifying key stakeholders, maintain a database of targets, and analyze stakeholder positions.

  • Assess and prioritize member concerns and share these priorities with colleagues and members.

4. Advocacy Execution

  • Plan and prepare for meetings with external stakeholders on various topics, including drafting preparatory content, presentations and briefings.

  • Collaborate with consultants, members, and partner associations to execute advocacy efforts, including preparing a range of content for different media.

  • Support engagement with key external stakeholders around the world to influence policy, regulation and to better position our industry on major economic issues.

5. Member Communication

  • Inform members about relevant developments, the impact of those developments, and the progress and outcomes of advocacy efforts.

  • Draft papers, letters, and articles, and mentor colleagues to ensure high-quality written communication.

  • Represent the association at events and meetings, providing advice and collecting member opinions.

  • Deliver presentations representing the opinion of the association on different topics to members, external stakeholders, and at industry conferences.

Commercial Underwriter, Nexus Trade Credit

Manchester/North West or London

Nexus Trade Credit seeks a Commercial Underwriter to join our team and report into either our London or Manchester office. We are ideally looking for someone who has previous experience within the Trade Credit market. The candidate will be responsible for our Top-Up and Non-Can Limit renewals
portfolio primarily covering mid-to-large-sized clients.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage client portfolio of mid-to-large-sized clients and oversee renewals.

  • Develop relationships with brokers and insureds.

  • Evaluate submissions and underwrite policy terms.

  • Collaborate with the Risk team on key limit challenges.

  • Prepare pricing models and renew policies.
     

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in credit insurance or related industry.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of domestic and global economic trends.

  • Familiarity with credit insurance terminology and policy features.

  • Strong communication and MS Office skills.

  • Willingness to travel within the UK.
